DescriptionUnder general supervision, is responsible for enforcing City and State Animal Control codes and laws and performing related public service. Is responsible for various tasks such as capturing stray dogs and cats, transporting strays to facilities, maintaining records, answering inquiries and promoting public relations, caring for animals in the shelter, investigating animal cases, code enforcement issues and occasionally confronted with risk situations. Acquires and maintains State certification for Class III Police Officer status. Reports to the Community Services Supervisor and to the Incident Commander as required by the National Incident Management System.
ExperienceMust be a High School graduate, at least 21 years of age; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must posses or be able to obtain S.C. Criminal Justice Academy Class III Police Officer certification. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license with a good driving record.
Physical RequirementsMust be physically able to operate an automobile, tranquilizer gun, radio, traps, small tools, and a variety of automated office machines, which includes a copier. Must be able to exert up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Medium Work must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.
